During a Kitchari cleanse

CLEANSING GUIDELINES

  1. During the 3-day cleanse, you will be eating a simplified diet of oatmeal and kitchari. This diet is substantive enough that you can maintain your everyday activities while given the digestive system a break, supporting the elimination of toxins, and balancing your mind and body. If the monodiet is causing a sense of deprivation, you can steam veggies as a side or eat with 1/2 an avocado

  2. Eat at regular times: e.g. 8am breakfast, 12:30pm lunch, 6:30pm dinner & allow at least 3-4 hours in between meals

  3. For a good night sleep, try not to eat anything after 7 p.m.

  4. Hydrate IN BETWEEN meals: avoid drinking water or teas during meals - aim to have 8-12 cups a day

  5. Practice self-care by exercising mildly and taking time for yourself (see the example schedule below for suggested self-care practices)

  6. Slow down: Every activity preceding and succeeding the meals should be restful, grounding, introspective, and/or rejuvenating

  7. If you get constipated during the cleanse: add ghee and steamed veggies to your kitchari, hydrate loads and take herbal supplements like Triphala (for ALL but AIR: Air types should take Karitaki).

A TYPICAL CLEANSE DAY

  • Eat lunch no later than 1pm

  • Everyday, lunch is a simple kitchari recipe

AFTERNOON

  • Avoid snacking. Instead, sip warm water throughout the day.

  • If you’re hungry between meals, don’t deprive yourself. Snack on herbal detox teas (CCF, licorice root, tulsi) and fresh fruit

DINNER

  • Eat a lighter yet satisfying meal

  • Eat no later than 7pm and be sure to give yourself 2–3 hours before bedtime to digest this meal

  • Everyday, dinner is a simple kitchari recipe

EVENING

  • Wind down by shutting off all screens by 8pm: read, meditate, take an epsom salt bath (the sulfates in epsom salts help to draw out toxins and heavy metals from the cells. Plus it is also a really good way to get your relax on.)

  • Sleep, no later than 10pm. Aim to get 8 hours of sleep minimum each night.
