Easy homemade almond milk

Almond milk 3.jpg

This homemade almond milk is surprisingly easy to make and a wonderfully nourishing alternative to cow’s milk. Almond milk builds strength and energy without weighting you down. Note: The almond milk we buy at the store is often made with only 7 almonds/cup or 30 calories/cup. The one you make at home, can be much more nourishing with more calories a cup (200/cup), and therefore, more nutritional density. Proof that calories are not always bad!

Serves 10  l  Difficulty: very easy  l  Prep time: 10min  l  Total time: 20min

Ingredients

  • 1 cup raw/roasted almonds

  • 3 cups filtered water

  • Pinch mineral salt

  • 1 nut milk bag (we love this one)

Steps

  1. Overnight, soak almonds in filtered water.

  2. Drain water and roughly peel almonds (peeling is optional).

  3. Blend almonds, 3 cups of water and the pinch of mineral salt until smooth.

  4. Pour almond and water mixture through a cheesecloth or a nut bag into a bowl or serving container.

  5. Discard the pulp or save for cooking a macaron (Yoom Recipe). Tip: Almond pulp can smell bad when it gets sour so toss it in an individual plastic bag before throwing it in your kitchen’s trashcan.
