What does your poo say about you?
Our bowel movements tell an important story about our health. They tell you if you're adequately hydrated, producing enough enzymes, about the bacteria you have in your gut, and most importantly, how well you are digesting and assimilating your food.
So taking notice of what it looks like is important to understanding the state of our insides. Here is how to decode your stool.
COLOR
💩 Brown = normal & ideal color
💩 Dark brown = insides are too dry & stool sits in colon too long
💩 Yellow or gray = fatty poop, & insufficient bile while makes it difficult for you to digest fat
💩 Green = stool has moved too quickly through the digestive tract, and has not fermented properly
💩 Red = you ate beets
⚠️ Bloody stool = check with medical practitioner promptly
SHAPE & CONSISTENCY
💩 Liquid = not absorbing nutrients & losing electrolytes and minerals
💩 Muddy = too much fermentation, poop is acidic and irritating the GI tract
💩 Frothy stool = Frothy stools mean there is a lot of air mixed with the stool due to gut fermentation. The bubbles in foamy stool are produced by gut bacteria.
💯 Smooth = ideal poop is smooth in surface, banana-shaped and wipe-less (no residue on paper)
💩 Creased poop = dehydration (same for stool that cracks and breaks in half)
💩 Rabbit pellet stool = chronic dehydration which is considered constipation where stool sits too long in the colon and poisons the blood with the non-evacuated toxins from stool
💩 Stool that looks like a veggie burger with pieces you can recognize = you ate too many insoluble fibers from carrots, beans and nuts & didn’t chew well enough (body can’t digest & remains solid)
💩 Pencil stool = intestinal walls are swollen and passage way is smaller
💩 Snake-like stool (long) = sign of poor absorption, shouldn’t have longer than a banana. If spongy and aerated = fermented
💩 Monster stool = hurts your anus on the way out - ate a lot of veggies with a lot of fiber
💩 Cat stool = tip is dry and body is moist & muddy = mild constipation
💩 Canon ball stool is when you massage the abdomen & you can palpate the stool inside = hard compacted fecal matter
