3-minute Golden Milk

Although turmeric lattes are all over Instagram these days, few of us know that this sunshine-colored liquid gold originally comes from Ayurveda. Also called ‘Golden Milk’, it’s Ayurveda’s most nourishing tonic traditionally made from ground turmeric, black pepper, ginger, cinnamon and other spices mixed into warm milk.

Golden Milk has been served for centuries for its many benefits including reducing inflammation in the skin and joints, clearing excess fat from the digestive tract and boosting the body’s natural immunity.

It’s very easy & quick to make at home so it’s the perfect alternative to morning coffee.

Serves 1  l  Difficulty: very easy  l  Prep time: 5min  l  Total time: 5min

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup of an unsweetened milk of your choice

  • 1 teaspoon of Golden Milk powder here

  • 1 pitted date (optional)

If you want to make your own mix, replace the Golden Milk powder above with:

  • 1 teaspoon turmeric

  • 1/2 teaspoon ginger powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon powder

  • 1 pinch of ground black pepper (this activates the benefits of turmeric so don’t forget the pinch!)

Steps

  1. Pour 3/4 cup of milk into a cup to measure. Transfer the milk into a small sauce pan to warm it up (2 min should do, you don’t want it to boil).

  2. In a blender (or cocktail shaker), mix the milk with all ingredients until frothy.

  3. Pour into a cup & sip away.

Note: Golden milk can also be made in advance and stored in your fridge for up to 5 days. Simply reheat it before drinking.
